“Gee what a suprise, ALL the bicycle lycra louts and senior citizens on 2wheels are mobilised in a military fashion by bicycle tasmania again. Great media saturation. BUT what about the real ratepayers and majority of voters in Hobart who are sick of Slobart and agressive bicycle riders blocking our progress just getting to work ” when required ” how much work productivity is lost travelling at kids bicycle speeds on the way to work. For those voters in Hobart who require paid employment to feed their families and pay their car/motorcycle registration fees etc. ( bicycles free and don’t need to obey traffic rules apparently ) this feel good utopia is on par with solar power for our homes ( more ” FREE” government money. Gee who really pays”

I know the weather may be against us but please come along to Franklin Sq at 5.15pm this afternoon as a show of support for the Sandy Bay Road Cycle Lanes.
Ald Damon Thomas submitted a petition to Council this week with approx 500 signatures against the proposal.
I have never seen the Hobart cycling community so unanimous in support of anything before. We have to show that support to overwhelm the relatively small minority who want to see Sandy Bay Road continue being a motor vehicle sewer.
Come along to Critical Mass today and ensure you and everyone you know makes a submission to Hobart City Council in support before Friday 3rd September. The online feedback form on the HCC website takes only a minute to complete.

“It has to start somewhere
It has to start sometime
What better place than here
What better time than now
All hell cant stop us now”

Listen up! The Greater Hobart Mountain Bike Plan is on the go. It’s the plan that will guide the future of mountain biking in and around Hobart for a good long time. We’re all in a position to have a big say in what we want to happen, and to really make a lot of noise and offer heaps of feedback in order to get a plan that truly reflects what the riders want. An expansive network of quality singletrack that caters to all levels and all disciplines of riders, and will sit Tasmania at the top end of the world mountain biking scene? HELP MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Go to the Wellington Parks website (click the image below), download the info and send in an expression of interest. If you want to get in deep, apply to be a part of the working group. If you just want to add your voice and make sure we get the best plan possible, sign up for the consultation group. This is an opportunity that cannot be missed.

Spread the word to all your friends, family and fellow riders. Spread it far and wide. Get involved!

Time: 3.30pm
Cnr of Marieville Esplanade and Sandy Bay Rd

Calling all cyclists!

Come along to support the proposed cycling and walking facilities between Marieville Esplanade and Cartwright Reserve. These world class facilities are facing opposition from a small group of residents along Sandy Bay Road.

Currently only those fast and confident enough to deal with the other traffic cycle on Sandy Bay Road so large sections of our community who wish to cycle with their children to school, to work or the shops are excluded for riding bikes because the lack of suitable infrastructure.

The resident are set to lose kerbside parking if it goes ahead – the wider Hobart community will lose a fantastic opportunity to cycle the primary route for cyclists to and from Kingborough and the myriad of benefits that flow from this if it doesn’t.

It is important for you to support this proposal in every way you can so come along on Tuesday but most importantly register your support with Hobart City Council here

The road space we all pay for as tax payers is too valuable a resource for private car parking.

Gotta love a good JRA story. Here’s one from Ryan, who had a good time riding the Luge MTB trail in Hobart a little while back. Photo after the jump…it’s a good one!

The tale:

a ‘just riding along’ story…
….so i was riding the luge a few weeks ago at the end of a sunday – was pretty fatigued (I’d just been yelling at Karl and Robbie to hand over the chocolate but none was forthcoming) and hit that bit where there’s a steep chute of white bulldust in the saplings and Karl had come off or stopped or something and he was on the side of the track and I just rolled over with weight too far forward or too much front brake, dont know or remember, but took the dive, but its a bit of a drop there so i landed hard. the bike belted Karl in the head so I checked to make sure he was ok then did the visual inspection only to fine this little baby under my left glove (i think its called a compound dislocation of the interphalangeal joint) . off to the Royal for a luxury 3 day retreat.
thanks to: Damian and Ange (ambo’s);
Konrad and Jeremy who tried to put the top back on the bottom in emerg without any luck but lots of vigourous yanking (said a white faced Robbie who witnessed the triage scene: “they were doing things youre not meant to do to a body!” – I was gassing myself silly at the time so wasnt as fussed as you might imagine;
thanks also to Mr Quarmby and the smiling Physios who made it work again.
The bikes fine (on-one with Rohloff – tough as nails); thumb will be ok – they reckon i’ll be predicting the weather; back on bike next week..
