The race took them several hours.<\/p>\n<p>The road between Sandy Bay and Kingston in those days was an unformed<br \/>\n&#8216;track&#8217;. The riders not only had to contend with mud, steep ungraded<br \/>\nclimbs and scrub, but with their equipment also.. they were riding fixed<br \/>\ngear bicycles with brakes that were somewhat ineffectual downhill&#8230;<br \/>\nanyway they did it and now we&#8217;re going to do it too..!!<\/p>\n<p>I keeping with the spirit of Bottles and Chains this will be an &#8216;informal&#8217;<br \/>\nevent.. there&#8217;s no entry fee&#8217;s or alike and all and sundry are welcome..<\/p>\n<p><strong>Times:<\/strong><br \/>\nRegistration &#8211; 1:00pm &#8211; 1:45pm<br \/>\nBriefing &#8211; 1:45pm<br \/>\nRacing &#8211; 2:00pm<\/p>\n<p><strong>Categories:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe ride&#8217;s open to anyone but we&#8217;ll be organising everyone into four cats. Brakeless Fixed (aka Mad Bastards),  Fixed\/Singlespeed (aka The Legs), Roadies (aka Dopers) and Fat Tyres (aka Knobblies).<\/p>\n<p><strong>You need:<\/strong><br \/>\nYou have to bring a bike to ride and a helmet! Sensible clothes are not required, or encouraged.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ride route:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps\/ms?ie=UTF8&amp;hl=en&amp;msa=0&amp;msid=113485581800085466141.00043e55840fb3a73e5e3&amp;ll=-42.952025,147.354641&amp;spn=0.020072,0.040169&amp;t=k&amp;z=15&amp;om=1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/intl\/en_us\/images\/maps_results_logo.gif\" height=\"55\" width=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Auxiliary Festivities:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe ride will be followed by plenty of beer and a BBQ at Long Beach\/Nutgrove (whatever the hell beach it is).
