Looks like Brisbane’s Global Gutz alleycat got shut down by the cops. It’s good to see the Brisbane police force is earning their way and properly allocating resources to crime prevention.
What a joke.

That is fucked. ‘No bells’? Seriously fucked. Bet 95% of Australian bikes don’t have a bell on them.. if the Police marginalise cyclists like this, events will just go further underground. I’m gobsmaked at the Police response, 12 coppers on a weekend? No drunks on the streets in Brisbane I take it? 12 coppers on a RTB site would have been a better use of public money!

Cops + Quotas = Horseshit
See the gum chewing action on PC McSlackjaw @ 0:40ish? She got that from CHIPS…or Cartman.
You know critical mass hobart has been working to get hobarts bike fleet all hunkey dorey in the eyes of mr police. Lashed out and spent over $200 bucks on bike bells last month so will have some spare for the next hobart alleycat if we wanna give em no excuses!
Dont hate the police! They get about 8 months training and are then expected to understand society and act the right way!
Nah, Liam my older brother is a cop. He’d book us all and then some. Haha.
…but what about the Senior Officers who planned the operation? They’re likely to have years of experience and knowledge and yet they still chose to shut down an event like this? Nah, mate.. no matter how I look at it, that’s pretty fucked.
Think back to those Victorian stats from last week.. 2 bicycle related deaths in 10 years.. and how many people were beaten up and seriously injured in Brisbane CBD last weekend in alcohol realated incidents? How many car accidents through speeding or drink/drug driving? Bet’cha there was a shit load.. after you’ve busted those offenders, then come and hassle cyclists without bells.
Hilarious waste of time from the Poolice. I mean, they have to keep busy and enforce laws but it must have been a SLOOOOOOOOW night in Brisbane to worry about you guys. Did they issue tickets or not?
I feel bells are redundant. Nearly all of us are riding our bicycles on the road and not the footpath.. and I’m telling you that NOBODY in a car is gunna hear your tinkling little bell. Yeah, maybe if you’re riding on the footpath a bell maybe be usefull but so is a polite spoken ‘excuse me’ or ‘coming through on your left/right’. I just can’t stomach the ‘bell as a legal requirement’. What does a bell really add to the safety aspect?
Benny, if you ever take little kids for a walk on the Hobart City Cycleway, you may quickly revise your stace on bells 🙂
