Canberra?? Yep, it was the phone call I didn’t want! My wife just rang me to say she’s been offered a job in Canberra.. Well at least it has a velodrome^^^^
It could be worse mate! It also has the best mountain biking in the country! And it’s all to be found less that 30 minutes from anywhere in the city!
I’ve never ridden it myself, but apparently Narrabundah velo is a bit rough, though probably about the equal of Brunswick here in Melbourne
Yeah, Mishmash has accepted the job.. so it’s an uncertain 6mths for us. Dunno who’ll move where after our respective contracts expire but the ACT is definately on the cards..
Cheers for the heads up on the Canberra velo-track.. couldn’t be any worse than our Newtown track in Hobart.
Stromolo looks dusty tho.. might be hard to adjust coming from muddy old Tassie?

Honestly, I left town after Stromlo was established and I haven’t ridden it, so can’t comment. However – Majura has some of the best trails out there, so give it a go. It’s smooth and fast through a mix of pine forest and native forest. Kowen ain’t bad. Also worth checking out Sparrows Hill too – it’s just a short trip out of town.

(Was reading about Narrabundah velo having this mean (read: terrible) transition from the banks to the straights that meant that you could get air off them… that and the snakes – scary! 😉 )
Argh! Sounds scary?? ^^ Transitions need to be subtle.. not sudden..
..and snakes?? Not keen on snakes.. on the sunday before NYE I was riding my fixie thru Middleton on my way to Cygnet when what I thought was a bit of rubber on the road from a blown truck tyre jumped up and struck my front wheel.. it was a 6ft long TIGER SNAKE!!
