This book was easily my favourite as a kid, and I don’t reckon I’m alone in that. The upcoming movie was exciting news, the fallout between Jonze and the studio seemed to be tragedy, and the (so-far) movie-like happy ending is all that we could have wished for. Now we just need to see the damn thing. I feel like a kid with his first bike, totally in awe of the posibilites ahead, yet a little worried about ending up bruised and broken.
Go read this interview with Jonze, it’s probably pretty good. The screeners look awesome and I get the feeling this movie won’t disappoint.

I worked in the Art Dept on this film, and it was without doubt the best, and most fun, job i’ve done.
Everyone, from Spike Jonze down, felt a huge responsibility to the legacy of the book. Like you, I was worried that they were gonna fuck it up. Who knows what has happened in post-production, but I can tell you that the stuff we shot was AMAZING.
I got chills whenever one of the creatures would run past me (at full tilt, at 5am in a burnt out forest, covered in snow, while I hid from the camera behind a tree. So surreal!) It should be fucking awesome.
Shit yeah, that must have been amazing! What were you doing with the art dept?
I can’t think of many other movies I’d have liked to see on-set. Except maybe LotR, damn I shoulda been an orc (skinny orc).
