Who’s bike? Vanders has a rigid white On-One single speed.. has he gone geared?
The Bloke has got almost exactly the same set up – but with a red On-One frame + Rohloff Speedhub. No Brooks though, I’ve got that. And we’re in Melbs. 😉
IMO the most contrived bike around Hobart at the moment… Too many “I’m cool, me” part decisions… and that fork looks hideous with those bars. Over built for a townie, which should be elegant and fast, yet if nicked it’s the heart that feels it rather than the wallet…
To give it some credit, I guess that’s what an abortion on wheels would look like…
…the red thing next to it, however, is a thing of abhorant shack-bike beauty. Stem mounted testical impalers, weird-ass but functional chrome ‘flat’ bar and a ‘grips are for homos’ smirk on its face. Now THATS a friggin’ townie.
Possibly more bling than need be but hey its a consumer society.. if the bloke likes Thomson Elite, Roloff, Brooks and can afford it, well why the fk not? If you can afford to buy it you probably can afford to lose it..??
I kinda agree with Timmy, modern take on an old school idea, rad. Personally would like to have seen some Rhyno Lite Rims and Maxxis Hookworms on this ride for some curb hopping/plowing townie action.
Actually not owned by a bloke, the extra small frame was chosen so the female owner can ride in a skirt – a nice touch.
I do agree the bike would be better without the On One forks.
I would argue that Rohloffs are not bling, pricey yes, value for money most definitely and unusual for our consumer society not something you are going to throw away in few years time, like the overpriced top of the range derailleur bling.
Same for the Brooks too really, maybe some think they are bling but they are still the most comfortable saddle for most people.
if you have seen the GIRL who rides it you would understand…
Oh, girls bike. Ok, bars make a bit more sense now. Silver shimano nexus hub would prob been a better choice – colour match, lighter, cheaper, does same-ish job…would have allowed some spare coin for a custom K-D Lang spray-job as well.
I’ve heard tales of this bike. Can’t say I agree with the look, seems a bit goofy really. Maybe it shines a little brighter in real life.
Also, are those Hayes?
I like it!
Maybe because being a Rohloff owner I can understand the down right quality of these hubs. Yes you can get Nexus hub but I would pick the Rohloff any day.
But on another note i do think the fork does look a little bit out of place? but as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
A few explanations…
Frame: a couple of years ago I couldnt find a bomb proof, light and affordable girls frame so on-one MTB frame it was – a guy was sellling them cheap in Aus. I can wear a skirt with it too! Figured if I decided I wanted a MTB I could just change some stuff.
Forks: Not my favourite bit but they match the frame.
Bars: I just like them. They’re really comfy.
Brooks saddle: I’ll still have it in 10 yrs and hopefully my bum won’t wear out.
Rohloff: Second hand and worth every $. You need one. Now.
Bling: Yeah I prob didn’t need the Thompson stuff but I couldn’t afford Moots 😉
Overall look: Well its not off the shelf. Prob it suits me. And sometimes its good not to take things too seriously 🙂
Good stuff!
A Moots post and stem would have looked so fkn awesome on a On-One frame! Haha, super bling meets budget priced practicality! Yin-and-yan.

I’m a fan, love your bike.
