THIS IS IMPORTANT

Listen up! The Greater Hobart Mountain Bike Plan is on the go. It’s the plan that will guide the future of mountain biking in and around Hobart for a good long time. We’re all in a position to have a big say in what we want to happen, and to really make a lot of noise and offer heaps of feedback in order to get a plan that truly reflects what the riders want. An expansive network of quality singletrack that caters to all levels and all disciplines of riders, and will sit Tasmania at the top end of the world mountain biking scene? HELP MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Go to the Wellington Parks website (click the image below), download the info and send in an expression of interest. If you want to get in deep, apply to be a part of the working group. If you just want to add your voice and make sure we get the best plan possible, sign up for the consultation group. This is an opportunity that cannot be missed.

Spread the word to all your friends, family and fellow riders. Spread it far and wide. Get involved!

Tassie MTB Plan – Feedback Time

Feedback for the draft Tas MTB Plan closes on October 11, which is only a week away. Worth checking out if you’re a mountain biker in Tassie. Actually, probably worth a read regardless of what you ride. Go check it out, and throw some words at them if you’ve got any thoughts. The more voices, the better.

Naturally BnC featured in a small way, with clogs mcgee Timmy getting one of his fine Wildside photos featured on the title page. Nice one mate.

Self-Centred Trail Advocacy

Apparently the Hobart City Council are thinking about building a pump track at the Waterworks Valley quarry site. This is a pretty rad idea, as it’s taking a public space and giving it a solid MTB/BMX lean, which can only be a good thing. It’s made even better by the fact that it’s about 200m down the road from my house. As such, it’s in my best interest to see it built so I can spend sweet summer days drinking beer, eating snags and riding my bike, hopefully simultaneously.

In order for me to achieve this situation, I’d appreciate your help. Head over to the HCC website and just drop them a message saying you approve of the proposed developments, mention how much you love the Waterworks Valley area (no need to lie there), and how much you would appreciate and utilise the area were it to go ahead.

If you do, I’ll invite you to my BBQ.

IMPORTANT: The Future of Tasmanian Mountain Biking

Alright kids, this shit is important. The Sport and Recreation department of the Tasmanian state government is currently putting together the Tasmanian Mountain Bike Plan, which is effectively a plan for the future of MTB in Tasmania. It’s bloody important, and getting involved and having your say is vital for anyone who ever rides on any kind of dirt in Tasmania. You don’t have to be hardcore, you don’t even have to consider yourself a mountain biker, all you need to do it get involved. There are community forums coming up in a few weeks and they’ll be a vital chance for people to put forward their views on the direction of official MTB support in Tasmania.

You can get all the basics, and read the details of what the plan will cover over at the Sport and Rec website.

Here’s the meeting information:

Opportunities for Input

Land managers, mountain bike riders and other stakeholders will have the opportunity to provide input into the plan through a series of community and land manager forums to be held in June 2009. The community forums are open to mountain bike riders, other stakeholders and the general public.  Three community forums, one in each region, will be held at the following dates, times and venues:

  • North West Community Forum
    22 June
    7:00-9:00 pm
    Ulverstone Surf Life Saving Club
  • Northern Community Forum
    23 June
    7:00-9:00 pm
    West Tamar Council Chambers, Riverside
  • Southern Community Forum
    24 June
    7:00-9:00 pm
    Domain Athletics Centre, Hobart

In addition to the forums, members of the public will have the opportunity to provide input through an online feedback form, which will be available on this website shortly.

Please, please come along and have your say. Trails in Hobart are currently under threat and we really need to show that MTB is a legitimate and popular activity down here!

On a somewhat related note, there’s also an opportunity to offer suggestions for the Conningham Recreation Area on the Parks & Wildlife website. If you ride this area (or know it), yous hould definitely get your voice heard.

More Launceston Content!

I dunno what’s goin’ on around here, but here’s some more Launnie-related stuff. Basically there’s been a new draft put forward regarding mountain biking in the Trevallyn and Kate Reed Nature Recreation Areas and it’s currently up for feedback. I haven’t had a chance to read it, but you should go over and check it out, especially if you live in the area. It’s an easy way to have some input into the areas you ride, so make the most of it while you can!

Feedback has to be submitted by June 1, so don’t fuck about!

Check it here.
