So, another wet weekend. The trails will be knee deep in slops & I don’t do road. I should be studying, but instead, going through my old photos & scanning the best ones is a lot more fun. Don’t have many earlier ones than these from 97/8. So many shit photos, got to love digital for instant feedback.
From the local rag back in NZ in 97, not my best side & what was I thinking with that helmet.
That’s a bit more like it. Catching some sweet air over the finish line. Still wearing some dodgey gear & the bar ends days are numbered. Riser bars & a shorter stem are just around the corner.
Oh dear. On my arse again on the top of Black Birch. Ice? Slippery stuff, which is why Dazza’s van only got that far. The down hill from here is 1600m in 10km
From the left, Dazza, Homer, Spanky, Mole, Scrubber & Lambo, cheer on my efforts at setting the timer on my camera.
Spankys mighty Mazda 808. The wagon of choice for our missions. This is on our way to Wellington for the Karapoti Classic. Spanky had lost his license at that stage, so I had driving duties. We got a few looks on the ferry & some passengers even took photos of the freaks on their bikes on the roof.
The Mazda wouldn’t die, even with a brick on the throttle for 5 minutes. Used more oil than petrol & the engine would run backwards when you turned it off.
So there we are. A short history of the kiwi. More next time.
Great photos – halcyon days.
Best team car ever.
Sounds like the old 808 had glazed bores – was a common problem with them. To fix all you had to do was tip a bit of Ajax in the carbie on full throttle. This was enough to scuff the bore up enough for the rings to seat…
Anyway back to cycling…
Lovin’ the pics K!W!… got any close-ups of the bikes? Always keen for some semi-retro action..
Still going through them mate. There’s a bit of purple goodness in there. I don’t know why the pics came out so small either.
